About Alessia Morrell, MA, Registered Psychotherapist:

As a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field in two provinces and multiple cities. This includes training and experience in individual, couples and group therapy.

Helping people has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy working with a variety of issues, but I am particularly interested in concerns relating to anxiety including health anxiety, phobia`s and OCD, relationship issues, addictions, domestic violence and chronic illness and pain. Other concerns I am competent in working with include: self-esteem and self-worth, trauma, anger, stress management, life transitions, job loss, boundaries, conflict, communication and more!

I know first-hand the toll that anxiety, chronic pain and illness can take on a person’s life and strive to use both my personal and professional experience when working with clients. Using my voice as a professional in the field is important to me, to advocate for better support for mental and physical health and to promote a more proactive and bio-psychosocial approach to health in general.

My Approach:

Using an integrative approach is important to me and provides you with a well-rounded and personalized experience. This supports the notion that no one approach fits everyone. The main approaches I utilize in my practice are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness practices, Compassion focused therapy, and Polyvagal Theory. I

strive to provide clients with a collaborative, supportive, non-judgmental, empowering and empathetic experience. My goal is to help you feel safe, validated and understood. I also encourage feedback at every stage to ensure you are satisfied with my approach, the goals we create, and our therapeutic relationship.

In my down time, I keep myself grounded through creative activities such as acrylic painting and card making. Part of my ongoing self-care includes spending time in nature, breathing exercises, comedy and maintaining a healthy sense of humour. When appropriate, I enjoy integrating humour into my approaches to relieve tension and offer a unique way to deliver complex material.

How I can help:

I can help you discover your internal resources, and learn strategies to manage overwhelming emotions and calm nervous system responses. I can also support you to develop increased self-awareness, challenge unhelpful thinking, cultivate acceptance, identify core beliefs and help derive meaning from your narratives. I follow a mind-body approach to ensure that both areas are healing congruently.
