About Leslie Newton, Owner/Coach, Child & Youth Care Practitioner:

In 1996, I graduated with an Advanced Diploma In Child & Youth Care from Humber College, and I`m a Professional Certified Member of the Ontario Association of Child & Youth Care.

I have spent the last 25 years practicing in my field of Child & Youth Care, supporting children, youth, and their families. Always learning, I have continued my studies over the years and have taken courses in Trauma, loss and grief through AdoptOntario, my Pride Training for Adopting and Fostering from Halton CAS, and have been an Emergency Foster Care Parent. I am also Certified in Restorative Circles. 5 years experience comes from working in Treatment Foster Care. Before becoming a CYCP, I spent 15 years as a Professional Skating Coach teaching children of all ages!

Working in Public education for 20 years has enabled me to hone my skills in working with children presenting all types of difficult behaviour. I provide support and strategies to reduce the difficult behaviour impacting a students academic learning and success. Providing strategies for difficult behaviours, emotional regulation, social skills, peer interactions, anger management, and anxiety, we always work through and find solutions together. I also have experience working with Special Needs children too!

Over many years, I have developed excellent counselling and interpersonal skills. My experience enables me to uncover underlying feeling and issues my clients are facing quickly. I work from a strength-based, client-centred approach building on the wonderful skills they have, and helping them learn and develop new ones so they can feel empowered, be happy and grow!

I love what I do and it is such an amazing privilege helping children and families live their best lives.
