Description

Meet The Team:

Charlene Wiseman:

I have been practicing in the field of mental health for over 15 years, and I am at my absolute best when I am helping others. Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face then seeing a client laugh when they overcome another one of life’s big obstacles.

After completing two undergraduate degrees (1999 and 2001), I completed my Master’s level training in Counselling Psychology in 2006 and became a Certified Canadian Counsellor. Since then, I have continued to do further training in speciality areas such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and Brainspotting. Currently I am a Registered Psychotherapist working in Private Practice.

My approach to therapy is one of support, encouragement, and collaboration. I truly believe that the path of self discovery that we travel is one where I walk beside you, as you do the sometimes difficult work that comes with self-healing. I have had great success treating many types of difficulties by interweaving evidence-based therapeutic practices, with this supportive and empowering approach. Ultimately, I believe that you as the client have the strength, knowledge, and power within you, to heal yourself. I feel privileged to be your guide to help you reach your goal.

As a therapist I’ve treated children, adolescents, and adults, and helped them manage anxiety and mood disorders, trauma, relationship and attachment Issues, and behaviour related problems. If you are struggling with something, and feel that you would like to meet, I invite you to reach out to me and have a free 30 minute phone or video consultation. This way, we can decide together if we are a good fit. Because ultimately, it is often the supportive and caring therapeutic bond that we share that helps to promote your healing. – I wish you all the very best in your personal growth and healing. – Charlene

Services:

Individual Therapy:

Inspire change and improve your quality of life with virtual or in-person counselling.

Overcome obstacles, tackle emotional pain and find your best self.

Do you want to improve your overall quality of life? Do you want to feel happier, more in control, or more fulfilled? Perhaps you need some support while you try to overcome a loss, or face a new challenge that life has brought your way. Do you feel like you need to learn new coping skills, or you just want to have an unbiased ear to help you make an important decision? The safe and calming environment that is created by a client centered therapist can be your haven of encouragement and support.

During individual sessions, we will work on an overall wellness goal, but we will focus our efforts on completing tasks, learning new skills, or processing trauma. Completing these tasks will help you navigate through the process of achieving your overall wellness goal.

Individual therapy sessions can increase positive feelings, such as compassion and self-esteem. People in therapy can learn skills for handling difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and reaching their goals. Many find they thoroughly enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware that they continue to engage in ongoing therapy for self-growth.

Whatever your goal, our team at careworks can help you achieve it. We are a dedicated and compassionate team of therapists who focus on the needs of clients, and help them achieve their goals. If you would like to discuss what your hopes are for therapy support, reach out to us for a free 30 minute consultation. Let’s see if we are the right fit for you. Be Well.

Couples Therapy:

Gain Insight, resolve conflict and re-ignite your love.

Reasons for Couples Therapy:

Communication Issues

Sexual Therapy

Partner Infidelity

Non Traditional Relationship

Premarital Counseling

Trust Problems

Is your couple relationship experiencing distress or conflict? Have one or both of you fallen ‘out of love’? Do you find yourselves constantly arguing and fighting? Do you have differing parenting styles? While there are few things as safe and comforting as a close connection with our partner, there are few things as painful and lonely as a couple relationship wrought with conflict, contempt, and despair.

Even the most insightful and caring couples enter into negative patterns of interaction (their dance) where partners square off and blame the other for their problems, which in itself creates more problems. We, at careworks, will help you to recognize your dance and its damaging effects on your relationship. We will work with you to step into a more positive and productive dance where you effectively communicate and solve problems together, as a team. We do this in a safe and non-judgemental environment where we do not take partner’s sides, only the couple’s side. Through Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we will help you to rebuild your ‘lost’ connection with each other so that you are each other’s safe haven again.

Family Therapy:

Improve communication and resolve family conflicts.

We work with your family to develop shared goals, and facilitate supportive conversations so that every family member feels heard and understood.

Is your family in constant conflict? Is someone continuously to blame for all of the family’s problems? Do some family members find it difficult to talk to and get along with other family members? Do some family members feel stuck in the middle of constant conflict between other family members?

In family therapy, we consider the family unit as a whole and each family member individually. We realize that the well-being of one family member is intertwined with the issues and well-being of the whole family; thus any problem experienced by the family is best resolved through a coordinated family effort. Here at careworks, we will work with your family to develop shared goals, and facilitate supportive conversations so that every family member feels heard and understood. We also draw on your family’s current strengths and problem solving skills, point out interactional patterns, and work with your family to produce the change that you desire. Ultimately you will feel heard and understood and part of a caring family unit.
