About Sarah Hopkins:
Sarah Hopkins, M.Ed., RCT, CCC, is the owner and lead therapist at Sarah Hopkins Counselling. She is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT). Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s University (2009) and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2013). Her extensive training includes an internship providing counselling, career advising, and assessment at a high school in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
With over six years of experience across the non-profit, public, and private sectors, Sarah’s expertise spans:
Sarah is a service provider for Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), offering short-term counselling to help individuals develop coping skills and achieve their health and wellness goals. Her experience also includes providing career counselling and assessment to post-secondary students and private clinic clients.
Vocational Rehabilitation Services: Sarah specializes in vocational evaluations, return-to-work planning, and job-search services for adults transitioning back to work after an injury. She has also offered consulting services to government agencies, workers’ compensation boards, and private organizations.
Consulting and Program Expertise: Sarah is trained in the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP), which addresses intervention techniques for reducing disability related to various health and mental health conditions, including pain-related disabilities. Her work includes case management for individuals with complex needs such as mental health disorders, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Sarah employs an eclectic treatment approach, integrating cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy to empower clients with tools and strategies for improved mental health and well-being. Areas of special interest include career and life decisions, returning to work after disability, and navigating life transitions.
Outside of her professional work, Sarah enjoys outdoor activities with her family in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia, and exploring the beauty of the province.
