Dr. Sam, who grew up in Kelowna, BC, has received his education in British Columbia, Europe, and the USA, earning a doctorate in Christian Counselling. With 30 years of a happy marriage, he brings a deep passion for life and a commitment to enhancing the well-being of others.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Sam has a diverse background that includes roles as a prison chaplain and a teacher in Belgium. In British Columbia, he has taught at the college level and co-produced 18 TV programs focused on Boundaries and Depression. He has also served as an instructor and supervisor for M.A. in Counselling students. Additionally, he volunteers with the Citizens Advisory Committee and the BCACC Registration Committee.
Dr. Sam is highly trained in over seventy therapeutic modalities, including TIR/LSR, EMDR, TAT, EFT, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Guided Imagery, and Pastoral Counselling. He holds a certificate in Trauma Counselling from the BC Justice Institute, and has received training in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.
At Restoration Counselling Services, Dr. Sam employs a holistic, eclectic, and pragmatic approach, integrating spiritual principles upon request. His expertise covers a broad range of issues including abuse, addictions, anger, stress, depression, grief, relationships, and trauma, including PTSD and CPTSD.
Dr. Sam is also a trained Communication Specialist and a member of the Okanagan Collaborative Family Law Group. Since founding Restoration Counselling Services in 1993 while with the Kelowna Salvation Army, he has directed his private practice, offering flexible and accessible services. His contributions include co-facilitating Parenting After Separation sessions and the Relationship Violence Treatment Program in the Okanagan. He collaborates with EFAP (Employee & Family Assistance Program) providers and the FNHA (First Nations Health Authority). Dr. Sam has also penned regular articles for Castanet.net on various counselling topics and co-authored the best-selling book “Bouncing Back: Thriving in Changing Times.”
Dr. Sam became a member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) in July 1996 and has served on its Registration Committee, Board, and as Vice-President of Region 3 for over 12 years. He was also appointed as a part-time member of the Parole Board of Canada, completing two terms.
