Valerie MacNeil Counselling Claimed

Valerie MacNeil Counselling in Victoria, British Columbia
Are you feeling overwhelmed by emotions, struggling with unwanted thoughts, or finding yourself stuck in unhelpful habits? Whether you’re navigating ADHD, trauma, addiction, codependency, or challenging relationships, you don’t have to face it alone. Everyone needs support at times, and counselling can be a powerful tool for change. Taking the step to start therapy can feel intimidating—I’ve been there too. But together, we can help you move from feeling stuck to feeling empowered. Let’s work toward a life that feels more balanced, fulfilling, and true to who you are.
As someone with ADHD myself, I deeply understand the challenges that come with it—racing thoughts, difficulty with focus, emotional intensity, and feeling misunderstood. My lived experience, combined with over 17 years of counselling expertise, allows me to offer empathetic, practical, and effective support for ADHD.
I primarily work from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach while integrating other evidence-based techniques tailored to your needs. More than anything, I believe in meeting you where you are, providing a safe, non-judgmental space where we collaborate to create a plan that works for you. Reach out today for a free 20-minute consult.

About Me

I grew up on the East Coast in a rural community on Cape Breton Island and graduated from St. Francis Xaxier University in 1993 with a BA in Political Science. I have called the West Coast my home since 1995 and I graduated from the University of Victoria in 2007 with a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology. My experiences with grief, loss, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and Multiple Sclerosis inform my practice and my compassion towards others. I chose to pursue therapy as a career because of my inherent desire to help others overcome life’s challenges and because I know first hand that counselling can and does work; I am living proof!

I am a proud mother to a beautiful, strong, independent adult daughter, and I have a 19-year-old feisty cat named Polly. I spend my spare time with friends, walking, creating with my many hobbies, and doing volunteer work for Umbrella Society where I sit on the Board of Directors and facilitate addiction groups as well as a codependency group which I developed.
