Solutions For Resilience – Calgary, Alberta – Inspiring Resilience and Personal Growth

At 53, I had the honor of speaking at Calgary’s inaugural Women and Wellness conference, where my breakout session captivated 210 out of 310 attendees. The response was overwhelming: women cried, laughed, and celebrated together, with one enthusiastic participant even leading a spontaneous rendition of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” This moment marked a turning point for me, revealing the profound impact my passion for speaking and sharing stories could have on others.

My journey into public speaking stems from a deep-rooted personal experience. Growing up, I struggled with a lack of safety and recognition due to my father’s unacknowledged PTSD from World War Two. This background fostered a resilient spirit in me, fueling my dedication to empowering others to overcome their own challenges and celebrate their strengths.

My insights on resilience have positively impacted various organizations and communities, including Shell Canada Ltd, Husky Oil, the City of Calgary, Mastercard, provincial and federal governments, and disaster-affected areas like Slave Lake and Okotoks. Alongside my speaking engagements, I am passionate about writing. I’ve authored hundreds of blog posts and articles and published eight books. My latest publication, From Woe to WOW: How Resilient Women Succeed at Work, highlights strategies for thriving in professional settings.

I co-authored the award-winning book Love Her as She Is: Lessons from a Daughter Stolen by Addictions with my daughter, Kelly. This book explores the transformative power of unconditional love and includes fourteen essential lessons for nurturing a strong mother-daughter bond. It has been featured on national media and adapted into a documentary.

My other notable books include:

  • Frantic Free: 167 Ways to Calm Down and Lighten Up – A Canadian Bestseller
  • She Said: A Tapestry of Women’s Quotations
  • Alberta Women Said: Wise Words by Wondrous Western Women
  • Patricia Said: 201 Witty, Wise and Weird Reflections
  • The Light-Hearted Approach: 87 Ways to be an Upbeat Parent
  • Gag Your Nagging: 101+ Ways to Communicate More Effectively

All books are available for purchase online or at live events. For bulk orders or event discounts, please contact me for details.

My work is informed by extensive training in Humanistic Psychology, Positive Psychology, and resilience. With a background as a therapist, group facilitator, agency director, and active community member, I offer valuable insights and support.

I am honored to contribute to the Canadian speaking community as a past president of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, Calgary Chapter, and recipient of the Spirit of CAPS award. I was also recognized by Global TV and the Calgary YWCA as a Woman of Vision for the positive impact of Love Her as She Is.

As a spunky senior, mother of three (including one with disabilities), grandmother to five (two with disabilities), and happily married, I bring a unique perspective and vibrant energy to my presentations.
